A Youth Developmental Triathlon Team is a team for young athletes who would like to participate in youth triathlons. The Jr. HammerHead Triathlon team exists to foster a love for the sport of triathlon along with all the health benefits in a fun team environment.
All athletes need to be able to swim and ride a bike safely in a race setting. We require that all athletes are year round swimmers. We recommend athletes to be between the ages of 7-15 years old. USAT rules state that all athletes race at how old they will be by the end of the year on December 31st.
For Juniors ages 5-10: Swim is 100 meters, Bike is 3 miles, and the Run is 1/2 mile
For Seniors ages 11-15: Swim is 200 meters, Bike is 6 miles, and the run is 1 mile
Ironkids has three race distances. Junior (8 and under): 50 yard swim, 2 mile bike and 500 yard run. Intermediate (9 - 11 year olds): 150 yard swim, 4 mile bike and 1 mile run. Senior (12-15 year old): 300 yard swim, 8 mile bike and 2 mile run.
The developmental team training starts the beginning of March and runs through the beginning of August.
The team races start in May and end in the beginning of August.
The team practices 2-3 times a week at various locations around Jacksonville. Workouts are provided via a secure web site login for the athletes each week. We regularly meet for track sessions, biking sessions and triathlon specific race simulations.
Please fill out the team application at the end of our website. The cost of joining varies upon the goals of each child and the type of coaching required.
